Resilience & Preparedness

As most people are aware, our valleys have experienced a number of disasters and extreme weather events over many years.

Each year always brings varying flood events and this seemingly can now happen anytime between December and July.

Drought & fire risks, water security issues and dry conditions can peak in September / October and November

Wind events may not be common but can be a risk between November and end of August.

Our region, like others are not immune to other disruptive events and crises including the COVID era and the ongoing threats and risk of financial / banking and cyber disruptions, wars and geo-political events that can effect the supplies and prices of energy, fuel and food.

Our Community went through a lot in 2022 in particular with the mega flood and landslide event and both during and after we developed a range of response and recovery strategies and initiatives.

This includes a UHF radio communications network that can link up people in the community if phones /internet etc are all down and unavailable. Please email us fore more info.

Our Association committee has also been engaged with the broader Northern Rivers Resilience Alliance which includes over 50 small community groups like ours across all the nearby council regions. This has resulted in being able to access resources, support, funding and training.

As further relevant events, skills training, meetings and resources are made available or scheduled, we will publish details on this page and website.
